Midsummer's Eve, 1259

Upon a windswept hilltop, three women stood in the shadows of four tall standing stones. A fifth monolith lay in the grass, having toppled over so long ago that it had ground itself into the earth. Carvings adorned the stones; interlacing knotwork here, a tall cross there, crumbled with age, and in several places, a circle containing a threefold spiral. Crows circled above, squawking and quarrelling in the dying light of the evening sun.

Maedhros, captured by Morgoth, wondering what further fate awaits him. Or possibly beyond caring at this point.

From J. R. R. Tolkien's Silmarillion.

Dr. Ph. Martin's liquid watercolours on Canson paper. Painted in a sort of delirium. I sat down at half past seven and when I got myself a new bottle of coke around midnight, this was lying on my desk. I seriously have no clear recollection of what happened in between.

Scrolling through your gorgeous gallery (and favoriting all the things!! XD) and I see the one of Maedhros hunting in Ossiriand and I'm like 'Yaaaay! Happy stuff!!' and I teared up a bit because you never get happy Maedhros stuff, even in the book. Then I continue onwards and there's this and now I'm fucking crying again >.<
It is beautiful though...

Those claw marks, man. Those make me squirm with sympathetic pain. In fact I actually was kind of reluctant to look at it full view because it's so SAD.
