Finally Done!

One half of a commission for Becky Dillon. Lúthien:

From The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Note: The tartan cloth is not exclusively Scottish. It was worn by many peoples on the British isles, Germanic and Celtic alike, and I chose that look to denote a rather less civilised look of Men in the First Age.

My blog: [link] (I have a print sale running until tomorrow! Hurry if you want a print at 20% off!)

Prints of this - and its companion piece - will be available soon.

Liquid watercolours on Canson Montval paper, 30x50 cm.

He looks like a hero should, while remaining a man (hope that makes sense).

I think the more primitive clothing is very appropriate for the person and setting. Good call.

It accords very well with the picture of Luthien, I love these Beren!

Well, I am the author of the novel mentioned below, and I was very much loathed by Russian Tolkien fandom puritans for making Beoreans wear tartan.

Now I see I am not alone! Whoopee!

I think it's a good match! Thank you! Fans can be stupid. ;)

There's a fan Silmarillion novel in Russian (a very good one that was even actually published), where Beren also dons a tartan cloak. Guess the idea's been flying around. ;)

It's a very European, and a very "old days" idea - not that far away from the Elder Days. :)
