Feanoreans - family picture by Gold-Seven Feanoreans - family picture by Gold-Seven
A re-run of a pic I must've drawn around ten years ago... and another one of those "missing scenes" from the Silmarillion.

Take a peek into the house of Feanor when the Noldor still lived in Valinor... I imagine it must have been rather lively at times. Nerdanel, pregnant with Curufin, spots trouble brewing between Caranthir and Celegorm (who seems to have always been rather protective of his dog), Maedhros has just given up concentrating on writing a letter, Maglor demonstrates that poets and artists are always able to retreat into a world completely of their own during the creative process, and Feanor looks in from the smithies and shouts for some quiet. ;)

Watercolour and Photoshop.

ADDITION: I've dug out the old version of this, drawn in September 1994. [link] A masterwork of composition. Perspective is Higher Mathematics and therefore unattainable for mere mortals. Backgrounds are for people without imagination. But well... Maedhros was cute. :D

ADDITION #2: Believe it or not (I almost didn't), but the very day I drew Nerdanel's big belly, *I* got pregnant.

So, for all those of you who're trying to get pregnant and it won't work--draw pregnant women!! :boogie:

This is wonderful (although I'm quite confident that you already knew that!).;) (Wink)

It's interesting to speculate on what equivalent illustrations of the House of Fingolfin and The House of Finarfin ought to look like:-

 - It's easy to imagine Fingolfin keeping his household in MUCH better order, with a mixture of drill-sergeant authority and patriarchal good fellowship; the same energies are expressed but pulling in harness rather than unearthed and pulling against one another (it's easy to see them picnicking out in the woods on a hunting expedition, rough-and-ready but with clean hands and faces as they eat their kill for dinner - Fingolfin at ease but keen-eyed, his wife Anaire even more respectable if anything, Fingon playing the dutiful son despite clearing yearning after further adventures, Turgon looking like a pillar of society as he thinks longingly of salad, Aredhel angelic in white tunic and looking like a naughty schoolgirl anyway, Argon too young to judge by personality but taking a little TOO much interest in dinner as he reaches for the spit even with the cook fire in the way).

 - On the other hand if anyone is making mischief in Finarfin's House they're doing it with dad's full knowledge and consent; he's clearly 'cool dad' as opposed to 'Busy dad' and 'Boss dad' (and quite possibly inspiring as much affection as embarrassment in the hearts of his kids) - Galadriel in particular one can imagine wishing something COOL would intrude into this warm bath of affection, as she goes boating alongside Father and Finrod the Good Son (looking like a model citizen) probably waving to friends right alongside Dad, Angrod and Aegnor glowering at one another along with the rest of the world, Earwen clearly wondering how on Earth Nerdanel puts up with this sort of anarchy ALL THE TIME ...

But I digress - particularly fine work Ms. Dolfen.

Lovely peek into Feanorian family life. You manged to capture the chaos of a big family and they all took so beautiful and very much as  themselves.
Maedhros is probably wishing for his own separate work room, with double stone walls and steel doors. So hard to be the eldest. If only they could all be as sweet as Maglor...

I love the expression of Caranthir, so young and already cruel^^ Never ever touch to Celegorm's dog! That's bad. Very bad. Poor Maedhors, the letter will be for another time... :D
Maglor's concentration is incredible. It's the proof that he trully is a great and admirable poet.
I love the large families, they are so funny!! (I have the feeling of seeing one of my everyday life scene^^) I would like to see scenes like that in the Silmarillion...well, I guess I'll have to write them XD
A really funny picture, I love it ;)

Lovely picture. I do wish constantly that Tolkien would have given more detail on the lives of the characters, especially in moments such s these. But gaps are being filled in my heart by your creative drawings

Poor Huon... That cannot be fun... No wonder Celegorm is mad. BAD Carnistir. Put the dog down now. LOL! I love this picture. It really gives a good feel for the family. Why do i get the feeling Maglor won't be so sweet if someone grabs his harp away... great job! This picture has always been one of my favorites.
