Gandalf the Grey by Gold-Seven Gandalf the Grey by Gold-Seven
This one was painted back in October, as a commission for a Christmas present for the client's brother - so I can only share it now :)

Painted with Schmincke and Daniel Smith watercolours on Canson Montval paper, A3 size.

See the walkthrough here:…

The commissioner gave me one of the most awesome surprises when he filmed his brother's reaction upon unwrapping this one.… His account can be found on dA: *The-Wizard-of-Art

Lastly, thank you for not discussing the "Hobbit" movie(s)! :3

A fine rendition of Mithrandir and I particularly admire those eyebrows - you just can't draw a good Gandalf if you neglect to give him eyebrows that could out-fuzz a caterpillar!

Ich hab mich schon gewundert, wo er bleibt ;-)
Mir gefällt an diesem Bild, wie er trotz seiner entspannten Haltung skeptisch und wachsam in die Welt blickt.

Awesome work! Well, all your work is awesome, which is why I've been watching you for the past half decade, but I really think you captured Gandalf's essence well. :D

I was watching a Tolkien documentary and they talked about how Tolkien wanted to write the mythology and the stories so that others could take up the mantle and produce art and music and adapted stories to carry on the legacy that he began. For a time, he lost hope that everything he ever dreamed of would be lost. He didn't believe there was an audience for his work. My first thought was of your art; how happy he would be if he knew. So thank you for all of this, and for indulging my sentimentality.

Aah, I had wondered why the walkthrough disappeared off your blog.

It's brilliant, and captures some of Gandalf's many aspects; no wonder the commissioner and recipient were so stoked.
