As the forces of Morgoth assail the Hidden City, Ecthelion of the Fountain and Glorfindel of the Golden Flower, along with the rest of Gondolin, muster their forces to defend their city against all hope.

(From "The Silmarillion" by J. R. R. Tolkien, although most of the descriptions here were taken from the Lost Tales). Done as a commission for Pentangle - and loads of fun I had, too!

Watercolour. Some Photoshop touchups on Glorfindel's armour.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The armor is fantastic...I want it. I'm taking it out of your picture by defying the laws of physics (because I have those powers, as of now) and keeping the armor for myself.

It is beautiful, really. The sky is great....red, to mark a battle, I'm guessing. FLUTE PLAYERS IN THE BACK! AHH! Just noticed that.

Gorgeous. I really like the detailing--everything from the armor to the hair to their faces. Very nice, and conveys a nice "in another time, and another world" mood that Tolkien's so good with. :D

Years are like fractals. The more you've seen of them, the more you appreciate the details of each one, rather than how many you've seen.

Ahh.. absolutely wonderful as always! I actually have both Ecthelion and Glorfindel coming up in several of my WIP and to-do illustrations at the moment so it's great to see other people's visions of them. (-- especially yours, since you are the greatest! :D). I love the details and their worried expressions.. they know they must prepare to fight against all odds. The red sky sort of proclaims the forebonding battle and doom. Once again a great piece with amazing atmosphere!

I like how you've done the armour, it's amazing.

Trakos is a Red Dracor, one of the great Warriors of the Dragons. Robboman is an old parody character, which I use as my username.

I'm amazed by the armour too... And the bakcground. And Glorfindel's hair. And everything.
As usual.

One awesome piece again, Jenny. I love how you did Glorfindel's armour. It looks absolutely stunning. There's not much Glorfindel (Ecthelion for that matter!) out there. Aaah, the HoME volumes. They're so neat aren't they? The expressions are great too. They really look like they're up against Balrogs and Dragons and tons of Orcs.

I spent some time googling for different armour types - but the designs on the armour are mine, based on their heraldic designs (fountain/golden sun). :)

Chaucer: You've probably read my book? The Book of the Duchess? No? Well, it was allegorical.
Roland: Well, we won't hold that against you, that's for every man to decide for himself. (A Knight's Tale)
