Completely repainted this in liquid watercolours on Canson paper.
"But the jewel burned the hand of Maedhros in pain unbearable; and he perceived that it was as Eönwë had said, and that his right thereto had become void, and that the oath was vain. And being in anguish and despair he cast himself into a gaping chasm filled with fire, and so ended; and the Silmaril that he bore was taken into the bosom of the Earth."
J. R. R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, chapter 24: Of the Voyage of Eärendil and the War of Wrath
Again you astound me with the wonderful emotion in your beautiful Silmarillion-themed art work. Thank you so much for making one of Tolkien's (sadly) less-appreciated works come to life.
O-o. I just found this...I think. I may have commented on it before, but I think not - I hope I would have remembered this one! It's amazing! I love the sense of vertigo it imbues, and how Maedhros' face is hidden - and the Jewel at the heart of it all. Beautiful!
