"Cursing, he jerked at Enna's reins, shouting at her, trying to make her stand, but she ran like mad, fountains of water splashing up where her hooves hit the ground. Aidan cast around wildly in order to orient himself; during the fight, he had lost all sense of direction. He saw the river to his right and knew she was running south. He also saw something else that made his blood freeze: a black shape sharp on his heels, and another, just behind the first.
Panting, he tried again to turn her around, so he stood at least a chance of fighting the creatures, but again, it was useless. He looked back again and again, expecting one of the creatures to jump, but they didn’t seem to gain on Enna quite as quickly as the other creatures had on the horses of his hapless companions. He squinted against the sheets of rain lashing down ahead of him, and his heart missed a beat as two more shapes materialised out of the gloom, standing with their muzzles in motionless forms on the ground."

The Rhyddion Chronicles (which is what they're called as of last Friday :D)

When Aidan got up this morning, he was expecting nothing worse than a dreary parley on a slightly overcast day.

Since then, things have taken a turn for the worse.

It's always like that, when characters smile and ask, 'what could happen to me?', and then it happens.

Excellent job! :)

Is the title taken from Blind Guardian's song, by the way, or is it just a coincidence?

That is an awesome picture. I love how you drew the rain, it looks really good and really gives the picture the flooded edge that the name implies. I love the horse and I wonder what kind of creatures the others are. Have you given them a name?

Are those hellhounds? They look like em to me. Black devil dogs *shudder up spine* :fear: Bleh! Hate those things. There are similar creatures in the story I'm writing. Except they're part gargoyle and have wings as well. Nasty things. I've always had the jibbles about big black dogs since watching The Hound of the Baskervilles. Some of the earlier ones are okay. But over christmas they showed a remake version with this really awful huge CGIed thing that was twice the size of the men in the film and had this hideous zombified half-decaying face. Brrr!

Anyway....Poor Aidan. Poor Enna she looks terrified you can see her eyes all rolled back. Why was she bolting in the first place? Because of the hounds or something else? I love how you painted the rain in this. Did you paint every streak or use the special cheat with the noise filter :giggle: Either way its excellent at adding to the scene of doom and gloom and hopelessness. I hope Aidan gets out okay.

Die Wassereffekte gefallen mir wirklich gut, wobei das ja wirklich extrem hochspritzt. Die Hundis sind auch schick! Sehr schönes Bild.

Brilliant! You've really captured the movement, but somehow you've managed it without sacrificing any of the detail... how DO you do it?

It's a proverb - Blind Guardian obviously had the Oxford Reference Guide to English Proverbs standing around somewhere ;P

Chaucer: You've probably read my book? The Book of the Duchess? No? Well, it was allegorical.
Roland: Well, we won't hold that against you, that's for every man to decide for himself. (A Knight's Tale)

I made sure the sloshing water only went in places where there was no detail to be lost. :)

The people in the story refer to them as "stone-shades", as they spring to life from pebbles cast on the ground.
