It's incredible how much of a heartthrob this guy still is for me. We're nearing our twentieth anniversary. :D I'm really lucky that my husband has allowed me to keep him all these years.

*ahem* Maedhros son of Fëanor from Tolkien's Silmarillion.

Winsor&Newton watercolours on Moleskine sketchbook. (Yay for Burnt Sienna!)

Oh I know what you mean. I just celebrated my 17th year with my red head as well...

Oooh, I really like this one (despite the fact I personally tend to picture Elves with long hair, haha)! He's very intense and determined here ;) And he looks very similar to your Feanor portrait you did just a little while before this---which is very fitting! You can see some Nerdanel traits too :)

OT, but out of curiosity, do you picture Celegorm as a blond? I know it's not known what exactly Tolkien intended, but I have trouble deciding if they mean "The Fair" because of his light hair or because it just means he is incredibly handsome (if it's the latter I picture him with dark hair, but it switches). I know sometimes the redhead gene can produce blonds, so I guess it's...possible.

Sorry for the late reply - not really blond, no. Tolkien may have intended for "fair" to signify "beautiful", although the antithesis in Celegorm the Fair and Caranthir the Dark always struck me as important. Though in Caranthir, it referred to his skin complexion, which was more reddish than usual for Elves - so the most probably interpretation is that Celecorm had extremely light skin, but dark hair as most Noldor.

I've been drawing him as light brown for ages, but I might row back on that...

Oh my, I forgot to comment on this one! Shame on me!
Really, I could just sit here and stare at this all day. I love your entire series, of course, but this....is Maedhros:D I love the angle of his head, and the expression you gave him. And his eyebrows...!
Can I ask something? The color you use for his hair, how is it called? It fits him really well.

Heartthrob for me too, although I suspect finding your art whilst I was first reading the Silmarillion (I hate to think how long ago that was now!) may have fueled that a little ;) Beautiful work, as always.
