Maglor, second son of Fëanor. It's staggering to think that my design for him is almost twenty years old. I remember being very proud of it back in the day - a combination of soft features (eyes, mouth) and very masculine ones to balance it (eyebrows, jawline, nose). One of the few character designs of mine that was able to survive the ages.

Keep your fingers crossed that I'm able to do some more while the holidays last! Fëanor and Maedhros are already waiting in line...

Maglor is a character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Silmarillion.

Winsor&Newton watercolours in Moleskine sketchbook, though most of the stuff in there doesn't really meet the definition of "sketch". ;) This was painted in the playground though, so it qualifies anyway. And who knew how much of a geek detector painting on a park bench could be! The nice woman with her toddler who sat next to me outed herself for a LARPer and we had a wonderful little chat there. I'd never have known!

These drawings make me think... After Game of thrones converted to series and all...

Some time ago, when I heard that they could make a series out of the Silmarillion I thought (bah, no one is gonna do that, it couldn't work). But if I'm asked the same question now... well, damn why not, of course it would be cool!

I'm not sure. The Silmarillion would probably look like AGOT or LOTR in that regard - gritty, harsh, realistic. It's none of that. The Lord of the Rings is much more grounded in reality and was the logical choice to be turned into film; the Silmarillion would lose all of its etherealness if turned into a movie. I'm pretty sure I would not like it, and I *love* the Lord of the Rings (most of it anyway).

The only problem for me, if the Silmarillion was adapted, is that it would be more difficult to imagine the stories as I originally did when reading the books. The same thing happens to me now, when I try to recall how I imagined the Lord of the Rings without references to the film.
Doubtless, they would lose a little bit of the magic that makes them so unique to me. Nonetheless, this is a subjective feeling.

In spite of that, I still think that an adaptation of the fall of the Elven-kingdoms on Beleriand (i.e. from the Nirnaeth to the departure of Eärendil) to a TV series would be pretty fair.

I think I would profit from the doubtlessly great scenes, interiors and exteriors, in a film, but would leave my mental images well alone. It has worked with Harry Potter, and with the Lord of the Rings. If anything, it would be easier, since I've drawn my favourite Silmarillion characters several hundred times - a lot more often than Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Ok, so it means I must draw all Silmarillion characters and scenes that I like, just in case they decide to make the movie/series ^_^

Not sure yet. School has started again so my free time is even more limited than it as during the Easter holidays; I might switch to the other descendants of Finwe that I like better - Fingon, Fingolfin, possibly Aredhel, Finrod.
