I haven't drawn on pastel paper in eight or nine years - because my dratted old scanner didn't pick anything up on those. Now it finally occurred to me that I might try them again... And I love the result!
Maedhros. Either pre-Thangorodrim or... I have finally caved in and given him long hair. And then there was always that copper circlet that Tolkien said he wore and that would never really fit with his old hairstyle.
Don't give me any gleeful "I told you so's" please. I'm feeling bad enough as it is.
Maedhros son of Fëanor is from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
Pencil, white pencil and white gouache on pastel paper.
Maybe Maglor or someone was like, "You know, you've been rescued for a long time. Maybe you should grow your hair out again." So Maedhros tried it, and it was okay, but somehow it didn't feel right, so eventually he cut it again, and everyone was like, "Noooo! It looked so good! Why did you cut it?" And he replied with, "Because that hairstyle was the old Maedhros, and that's not me any more. SO THERE." And they all shut up because he was right, and anyhow, short hair looks good on him.
