Artist's Comments

Since several people asked me to record stages of my work, here we are: A step-by-step of a painting of my character Kanneagh. While this is not a true watercolour tutorial, since I can't teach watercolour through a couple of work-in-progress scans, you'll get an idea nonetheless, I hope. :) Some tips might be helpful for general colouring, in any medium.

Click "full view" please, but I think you probably figured that out. XD

I once read in a very wise woman's signature, "A winner never gives up" :D

But well, yes, it took me a few years to get the hang of this too. :)

Chaucer: You've probably read my book? The Book of the Duchess? No? Well, it was allegorical.
Roland: Well, we won't hold that against you, that's for every man to decide for himself. (A Knight's Tale)

Makes me want to get into watercolor....

grrr. I'm but a lowly, poor, collage student! WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO ME!?!?!

Excellent tutorial - the technique is interesting and nice to know about. :)

As a matter of fact, watercolour is dead cheap. After you've bought a few starting colours, paper and a few brushes, that's it. Okay, paper tends to get used up after a while. But the brushes can be used for years and so can the colours - Last week, I bought ten little watercolour pots to restock the ones that had been used up. Most of the ones I replaced had been in use since 1995. ;)

Hm.... intersting.

If I might ask, what colors would you recomend for a beginning set? Just color and brush wise. I need a way to get AWAY from the computer for a few hours a day/week, so I'm thinking a nice, cheap, fun art type project would be a good thing to look into.

I'm not sure that anyone has asked you, but what kind of printer do you use? I wouldn't think that most printers could handle paper as thick as watercolor. This is a great tutorial.
