Yay! I'm not the only one who was absolutely appalled by the thought of elves having pointy ears! ...until I relized they're easier to draw for me than human, round ones. Then I enthusiastically embraced the thought. :giggle:

By the way, I am having extreme problems with my dad concerning Elven ears. He tells me that he read somewhere that Tolkien's Elves didn't have pointy ears. But he can't remember where. :XD: I've tried convincing him with articles about the similarities between the Quenya words for "leaf" and "ear" but no... Was anything concerning their ears ever stated officially? :|

IIRC, the question was addressed in one of Tolkien's letters. Tolkien obviously never wanted to prescribe his readers what to think (which is why it's so incredible that so many of his die-hard fans are so intolerant about the few bits of actual description that exist!). But Tolkien did say that "Quendian ares are slightly more pointed and leaf-shaped than human" (the text I quoted in that pic is from "The Lost Road").

Fans have tried to dispute this, saying it was an old bit of writing and therefore rejecting it. I'd say go with what you like. But the pointy ears are certainly better supported than the normal ones.
