An extremely fun commission for Tom, of the bearers of the three Elven rings in the Third Age: Gandalf (Narya), Galadriel (Nenya), and Elrond (Vilya). I had the most fun with Galadriel's attire... and with de-agentsmithing Elrond. :D

Pencil, Parchment, Photoshop.

I love Galadriel's hair, since it goes with Tolkien's description where she has to unbind it to give some to Gimli. Details!

This might be a stupid question, but did Tolkien write a story explaining how Gandalf came by the ring . . . and how Sauron decided how many rings to make & who would get them?

That would be "Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age", in the Silmarillion. Sauron only made one Ring - and that was the One. The others were forged by Celebrimbor son of Curufin.

That explains why I don't remember - I had a hell of a time getting through the Silmarillion

No, you're right. Elrond got his from Celebrimbor, and Círdan his from Gil-galad, if I'm not mistaken.

they all got them from Celebrimbor...
I thought it was Elrond got his from Gil-galad,
and Gandalf got his from Cirdan...
and Galadriel was the only one whom orginally got hers from Celebrimbor, the ring maker.

Looked it up in Wiki; you were right. Odd, I always thought Celebrimbor wore one of them himself before he was slain.

nopes... he just made the majority of the rings he never actually wore any of them. He even gave Durin his ring.

Thanks - I notice again that this part of the history of Middle-earth has been largely neglected. ;)

I did too, for instance it speaks of Lesser rings but don't mention what they were, other then stone-less rings like the one ring.... or what happened to the other 6 of the 7 rings of the Dwarves, or who the Ring Wraiths once were...

YES, Elrond looks GREAT here.
Never liked his movie version... kept thinking he was gonna start calling Frodo or Gandalf or someone "Mr. Anderson"
Also, Galadriel's hair is very pretty. Soooo pretty......

Anyway, this is very good :D

:D By the way, just asking: could you do a picture of Maedhros working in the forge while a very young Celegorm tries to bug the hell out of him? And dear Maedhros actually gets bugged :D

Sorry, that's been in my head for a while now, but I don't have the talent to put it on paper :(

Hm, you see Maedhros spending a lot of time in the forge? I somehow always thought he wouldn't even try to match his father's brilliance in that area after the first few setbacks. ;)

True. But then I thought most Noldor would be skilled in smith craft ;) If you find the idea really odd, then you could always draw Maedhros annoying his father as HE works in the forge ;)

That might result in a pretty brutal picture. O_o I doubt Maedhros would have done this more than once... ;)

In that case, Maedhros would have been totally emaciated after he got off Thangorodrim ;) Not to mention that his hair would have gone past his knees LOL.

I like this; simple, yet quite effective at conveying the theme and key points. out of curiosity, how did you do the photoshop? like, paint tools, or selectively highlighting and adjusting the levels, or...?

Beautiful - I enjoy how they seem similar to the film verse, yet they also have their own unique features that could have been dreamed up from the book. And yes, the "de-agent-smithing" is very refreshing!
