Silmarillion sketch page: Beren and Luthien by Gold-Seven Silmarillion sketch page: Beren and Luthien by Gold-Seven
'Farewell, sweet earth and northern sky,
for ever blest, since here did lie
and here with lissom limbs did run,
beneath the moon, beneath the sun,
Lúthien Tinúviel
more fair than mortal tongue can tell.
Though all to ruin fell the world,
and were dissolved and backward hurled
unmade into the old abyss,
yet were its making good, for this—
the dawn, the dusk, the earth, the sea—
that Lúthien on a time should be.'

J. R. R. Tolkien. The Silmarillion

Pencil on pastel paper (aka my sketchbook)

Note: No, Beren neither looks like Viggo nor like Jon or Robb from Game of Thrones. Beren looks like a character fully entitled to being suitably scruffy, as opposed to Númenoreans (who can't grow beards), and to fourteen-year-olds (whose capacity of growing beards is far less formidable than HBO would have us believe).

On the basis that I'm writing a screenplay for Beren and Luthien, this is gold. Beren looks perfect, not only for a movie but a relatable character. Great emotion on his face, wondering if he'll return to see Luthien again XD

you'll want to kill me... but he looks like a young Jeremy Irons (but with fuller features = more handsome... and awesome)

Nothing wrong with Jeremy Irons. :) As a matter of fact, though, Beren is slightly based on my husband. ^^

haha, lucky you! I drooled over Beren for months after reading The Silmarillion for the first time!

I like this and your other picture of Beren a lot. He's not as severe as some of the other characters in the Legendarium. He just looks... very human. A solid, reliable, good-natured human. Almost a bit of an everyman, albeit a very clever and skilled one. And I think that is a very important addition to the First Age.

Your portrayal of Beren is very close to the image of him in my head. Wonderful sketch! And yes, he would definitely be scruffy (at least) after all his wandering.
