Spirit of Fire by Gold-Seven Spirit of Fire by Gold-Seven
A sketch of Fëanor that started life last Sunday at Hobbit Feest [link], now with a quick and fiery colouring job.

Fëanor is a character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. And this is the first time that I've managed to depict him every inch as I imagine him. The greatest of the Noldor, "of whose deeds came both their greatest renown and their most grievous woe."

Pencil, liquid watercolours on Canson Montval paper.

I think this is probably your best depiction of Fingolfin; it perfectly conveys his remarkable qualities, remarkable without being in the least ADMIRABLE (given that prideful temper of his).

Also seit Du die flüssigen Farben benutzt, sind grade die roten Hintergründe wirklich überwältigend. Passt zum "Spirit of Fire".

This I like very much! I feel there is an unwarranted tendency to portray Tolkien's elves as overly slender/willowy in bodily shape and facial structure (often with very narrow faces, pointy chin, and almost pout-like narrow mouths.), and looking overly adolescent.

It's not that I don't appreciate these artistic interpretations as well - but I think it's possible to do some variation on the theme - and Feanor certainly seems like the kind of guy who would rely on natural authorative charisma and aura of command. Something I think you've captured perfectly (well, as close as anyone could. :P ). He looks like an Emperor to me, or an adult Crown Prince if you will.

And it is AWESOME.

I do think some of them work as being protrayed as delicate or even feminine (I'm accused of that myself every now and then). But not Feanor, never Feanor.

I wish I'd known about this Hobbit Feest D: I'd have come to meet you!
And we Dutch people are - of course - amazing ;)

I absolutely love your depiction of Fëanor, he looks different from how I imagined him, but somehow it fits him even better.

Awesome! And quick and fast coloring job is perfect for him. Somehow a long, patient coloring job just wouldn't suit him... I doubt he'd stay still long enough to finish! Great job!

...this is kind of random, and definitely not the first thing that crossed my mind (that was more like, wow, this is amazing, I don't think I can do justice to this in words), but...well, his expression kind of reminds me of Sherlock's 'You idiots' expression. (BBC Sherlock). Just saying.
But definitely, wow. Just wow. His expression, the way you can see the light in his eyes and skin, the determined expression, the detail in the clothing...amazing :) Well done!

Couldn't be more glamour than that! I like the way you did the hair messy like that; it makes him look even more badass! Also I love the resemblances between this pic and your staffroom Maedhros sketch one. The similar expression, the same eyes... just wonderful!

Those eyes...:omg:

"of whose deeds came both their greatest renown and their most grievous woe." I mean, what else could be said about him? In Feanor's character are the great paradoxes of life; the power to do so much good and how that power can become evil when used with pride and selfishness, the greatness of creation and the darkness of the fall!

I do really enjoy how you painted this picture. Indeed it is fiery as his spirit is, but the paint also looks as though someone has spattered faded blood upon the page and that works even better as we all know if anything stains Feanor's flaming spirit it is blood.

It's magnificent. :D

he looks so... elven.

there are three authors whose interpretation of the elves i adore - Tolkien, Sapkowski and Pratchett. they depict elves in a radically different way one from the other (boy, has my english gone down the drain from the lack of use or what...) but still there are many repeating features to the elves' characteristics, such as alienish beauty (both in the good and bad sense) and sort of a magical aura to their appearance that makes you like them, supposedly; and pride, pride, pride of their superiority and grace. with your elves, naturally, i see mostly the positive characteristics but this time... that's a mighty dangerous look in his eyes... determined but almost hateful, in the same time.

in short, i like it. :XD:

Props for being one of the few artists I know of that actually portray male elves as actual masculine beings.

About this one in particular, I think you captured his 'Spirit of fire' excellently. That's him to a tee!
