A sketch of Fëanor that started life last Sunday at Hobbit Feest [link], now with a quick and fiery colouring job.

Fëanor is a character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. And this is the first time that I've managed to depict him every inch as I imagine him. The greatest of the Noldor, "of whose deeds came both their greatest renown and their most grievous woe."

Pencil, liquid watercolours on Canson Montval paper.

Also seit Du die flüssigen Farben benutzt, sind grade die roten Hintergründe wirklich überwältigend. Passt zum "Spirit of Fire".

This I like very much! I feel there is an unwarranted tendency to portray Tolkien's elves as overly slender/willowy in bodily shape and facial structure (often with very narrow faces, pointy chin, and almost pout-like narrow mouths.), and looking overly adolescent.

It's not that I don't appreciate these artistic interpretations as well - but I think it's possible to do some variation on the theme - and Feanor certainly seems like the kind of guy who would rely on natural authorative charisma and aura of command. Something I think you've captured perfectly (well, as close as anyone could. :P ). He looks like an Emperor to me, or an adult Crown Prince if you will.

And it is AWESOME.

I do think some of them work as being protrayed as delicate or even feminine (I'm accused of that myself every now and then). But not Feanor, never Feanor.

I wish I'd known about this Hobbit Feest D: I'd have come to meet you!
And we Dutch people are - of course - amazing ;)

I absolutely love your depiction of Fëanor, he looks different from how I imagined him, but somehow it fits him even better.
