The Death of Fingon by Gold-Seven The Death of Fingon by Gold-Seven
"Thus fell the High King of the Noldor; and they beat him into the dust with their maces, and his banner, blue and silver, they trod into the mire of his blood."

JRR Tolkien, The Silmarillion, Chapter 20: Of the Fifth Battle - Nirnaeth Arnoediad

Watercolour and Photoshop.
I remember now why my mother always says she can't read the Silmarillion and that it is too depressing...

I think this image captures a lot of Tolkiens ideas about heroism and the Silmarillion in it's entirety very well. I love your beautiful elf guys, but Fingon here, mortal and tarnished, shows best what they were about. Impressive piece!

I think Fingon's death is one of those which revolte me the most! I find it so unfair! (two against one, back attack...) And the disrespect of the ennemy...
Your drawing is amazing...such barbarism and yet so calm, he seems so in peace...We could believe that he is sleeping -but their is the ghastly wound...
"Thus fell the High King of the Noldor; and they beat him into the dust with their maces, and his banner, blue and silver, they trod into the mire of his blood." My heart is breaking...

Great picture. I always have trouble finding this stuff sad because the Elves fucking went to war, what did they expect? I'm sure Fingon gave better than he got.

A terrible scene - one that always evokes tears... however, my own vision of this scene is far more terrible and violent. For once, I'm glad you didn't match my vision.
