“Come, I'll get changed and warmed up . . . and you can tell me what’s been happening here.”

“Will you tell us about the fight?” Llywelyn interrupted as he skipped up the stairs. “Were you wounded? Did you kill many? Was Dylan scared?”

Aidan had to grin, almost in spite of himself. Llywelyn and Adenydd had always been a lot easier to be around than Dylan. He supposed that was because they had both been born after he’d joined his father’s household, and had never seen him as the intruder Dylan always had.

“We kept Dylan out of the fighting,” Aidan said in answer to Llywelyn’s question. “But his horse was killed.”

“Cadarn’s dead?” Adenydd asked in dismay.

“Yes, and four of our men.” Aidan realized he had not even known what Dylan’s horse had been called, but he thought it was better not to tell her that he’d had to kill the animal with his own hands.

“Why did they kill a horse?” Adenydd wanted to know. “He never hurt anyone!”

Aidan could not suppress a grin as he remembered just how much the destrier had hurt their attackers.

“He fought as valiantly as any of our men, Adda,” he replied. “And he killed two of them. Those hooves are deadly weapons.”

After enduring three weeks on border patrol, including a lot of bad weather, a skirmish or two and an arrogant younger half-brother, Aidan finds himself pestered with questions by his - admittedly much more tolerable - younger half-siblings.

A scene from my novel (probably finished around 2023 - pre-order now! :D) I started drawing this three years ago )sic) and always loved the sketch [link] but since loads of people told me the perspective was as messed up as could be, never took it any further. When I realized I was fond enough of it not to worry about perspective problems (I still can't see them, it looks reasonably okay to me...) I decided to finish it. :)

Pencil, parchment, Photoshop. :D

Beautifully done, I really like the lighting, and the closed in feel of the staircase. :)

The perspective isn't that bad and besides it's a great sketch so if you focus on the story within the picture you don't notice that the perspective is slightly a little bit off.

FFFFFF I HAD A DREAM ABOUT THAT STAIRCASE

Only... only it was an elevator-type thing that led to all kinds of nooks and crannies packed with interesting odds and ends, mostly historical info and also some weapons, and and...

BUT IT WAS THE SAME ONE. D: Creepy. Gorgeous painting also! XD

Thanks! It'll be a looooong while, I fear. I haven't got much time to write at the moment, but as soon as my workload decreases and my children are older, I'll try to get in some more writing time.
