Aidan stopped dead, staring at Rhys as the older man drew his sword, took a quick glance around the hall as if he was seeing all the people here for the first time, and realization dawned on him. "Oh, no. No, Rhys, you won't."
Rhys had to fight to keep himself from grinning, for he knew that, in this instant, Aidan would never forgive him if he did. The hall had fallen completely silent, and the cadfridoc* still kept his voice low. "Oh yes, I will. Now, Aidan, would you please kneel?" "But you can't—" "As a knight and cadfridoc of the teulu**, I can. And by the Gods, Aidan, I've never met a man who has earned this more than you. And now kneel." *cadfridoc: a captain **teulu (pronounced teylee): the personal guard of a Welsh chieftain The Rhyddion Chronicles Just imagine having your own knighting sprung on you like this!
