A pic that's been on my mind for a while, mostly triggered - as happens so often - by a single sentence in the "History of Middle-earth" series: "The twins [Amrod and Amras] called each other Ambarussa." I could just imagine Maedhros tracking down his younger siblings: "Which of you stole mother's cakes?" Both: "It was Ambarussa!" :giggle:

Watercolour. (Nothing digital involved here - I even pencilled directly on the watercolour pad. Oh my.)

Adorable! What is it with twin boys? We can't see them in any light but trouble! Poor Maedhros! I see he has long hair here...

Oh my, it's good to return to the old times once in a while, especially when they accidentally pop up among my favourites. :XD:

The twins' expressions and poses are just priceless. :giggle:
See? You don't draw Maedhros just tormented, except how every older sibling is. :XD:

Btw., I really like the sky.

They look so sweet and yet so naughty. It's perfect.

I'm so late with this comment ;) Anyways, yay for long-haired, two-handed Maedhros! I do love him when he's short-haired later on, but it's so rare seeing him (from you at least) with longer locks. That hair is just lovely; it goes very well with the deep blue of his tunic. Even though we can't see the face, I get the feeling that he's pretending to be mad but really isn't. As for the twins, ah well, I feel kind of bad for the Noldor who lived with them. There were two of them, and they were sons of Feanor on top of that! It's great how one of them is holding a cake behind his back, and the other one looks like he's doing the same, and there are crumbs on the ground. Great faux-innocent looks on their faces. This sounds kind of bizarre and creepy-strange, but I really like Maedhros' pants. Not sure why though.

Very nice colors too. And the details! *dies*

Nice as the first time I saw it. He is very young here, still a boy himself. And I always draw first om watercolor paper. I don't think it's wrong.

The funny thing is that I drew Maedhros with long hair *after* I'd been drawing him short-haired for over ten years. ;) I liked the idea to make his hair length a plot device; going with long hair before his captivity, and keeping it short later as a reminder. Uh, another reminder. :D

you know, as a creepy stalker, I would like to say that I barely even took notice of Maedhros when I read the Silmarillion, too intent was I on Fingolfin and Turin Turambar and the Gondolin folks. But now? Thanks to you, he's, like, totally my favorite character. So, you've another convert to his cause. I hope you're happy.

The funny thing is, I only "saw" him in the second or third re-read too. Until that, my fave was Finrod.

Do you copy the line art onto a thicker paper later on for watercolour? I love drawing young children - you can draw them in absolutely any clothing and doing anything, from mischief to adventure!

Most of the time, I do my lineart (in pencil) on a smooth sheet of paper and print it (or have it photocopied) onto watercolour paper. This one was the very basic approach, though - pencils done directly onto watercolour paper and then coloured directly. I was at my parents' and didn't have all my hardware with me ;)

I've used that technique once, but I had to trim the paper so it'd fit the printer, and I don't know if I can be bothered, to be honest -_-' Do you ever find that the colour of the lines change after copying it?
I usually do it that way (pencil directly on paper) so I might try your tech next time I try painting.

They are SO cute!!! *hugs the twins* I LOVE Maedhros with long hair! It really looks like he took time to put it in that beautiful braid or whatever it is, thus making your pic Humilliation all the more potent. I wonder how much of an age difference there was between Feanor's sons, I hope it isn't much, I really like the idea of them all playing together :) I'm sure you know this, but Elladan and Elrohir were 111 years older than Arwen. That lessens my hopes somewhat but who knows?

I always kind of assumed that Feanor and Nerdanel were pretty busy for a while. ;) I don't think they all played with each other, I always saw them as being 3-5 years apart (maybe slightly more in Elven terms). And for some reason, I always pictured Maedhros and Maglor as being very close in age, with a larger gap until the three C's, and another for the two A's ;)

I usually have the age differences starting very small and then increasing; there's an average of two or three years between each little terror, with the twins being somewhat of an afterthought (perhaps it was a cold night) 22 years post-Curufin; all in all, for the purposes of my personal timeline Maedhros is 33 (~15 in elf years) at the time of Ambarussa's birth.
